Lamunai Records is proud to announce the first-time vinyl reissue – after 61 years out of print – and also the first digital release of a classic album by legendary Indonesian singer Oslan Husein. The self-titled album “Oslan Husein” originally released in 1966 features a curated selection of songs from iconic Indonesian films once performed by Oslan. Originally released by Irama Records, the album is now repackaged as an exclusive long-play vinyl release.
Some of the films featured in this album are ones in which Oslan Husein starred as an actor, including “Detik-detik Berbahaja,” “1000 Langkah,” “Kasih Tak Sampai,” “Hadiah 2.000.000-,” “Maut Mendjelang Magrib,” and “Antara Timur dan Barat.”
This project is part of Lamunai Records’ ongoing commitment to restoring and reissuing historic music catalogs from Irama Records, the first Indonesian record label, active from 1951 to 1967. This initiative is carried out in collaboration with Irama Nusantara, a nonprofit organization dedicated to documenting, preserving, and promoting the history of Indonesian music.
Founded by Suyoso Karsono, a war veteran and pioneer in the national recording industry, Irama Records played a vital role in capturing Indonesia’s cultural transition through sound from keroncong to jazz, rock ’n’ roll, and early dangdut pressed on shellac and vinyl.
Lamunai Records chose the works of Oslan Husein (1931–1972), a singer and actor from Padang, West Sumatra, renowned for his contributions to Minang music and Indonesian pop of the 1950s–60s. His songs are considered to have a unique character that deserves to be reintroduced to a wider audience; characterized by his unique sound, he emanates a sound familiar to modern listeners as cumbia/latin, exotica, jazz, hawaiian and Indonesian traditional music into a blend that can be considered an early and essential example of lenso.
The album also features orchestral arrangements by Jack Lemmers, enhancing the cinematic feel of the selected tracks. He created special arrangements and musical treatments unlike the usual (for example, the use of four guitars at once) — while Oslan carried out the recordings at Irama studios.
