A cornerstone of Indonesian music history, Kisah Pasar Baru stands as the definitive triumph of Irama Records—the pioneering label founded in 1951 by Air Force officer Soejoso Karsono to reclaim musical production in a post-colonial era. Bringing together legendary composer Ismail Marzuki and iconic vocalist Bing Slamet, this groundbreaking compilation forged the foundational blueprint of modern Indonesian pop, capturing a pivotal moment when local sound transformed from an anti-colonial rallying cry into a vibrant, self-determined national identity. Now reissued in 2026 by Elevation Records and Lamunai Records.
